Bun Cha is a Vietnamese dish of grilled pork and noodle.
It is about 50 years since Hoa Dong Bun Cha restaurant located in intersection between Ly Tu Trong street and Thu Khoa Huan street (near Ben Thanh market). This restaurant still remains grilled style in bamboo sticks that is very interesting. Although Bun Cha is thought to have originated from Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, few restaurants in Hanoi keep this grilled style.
However, the most delicious grilled style is to use bamboo sticks that made from old bamboo because it will be hard to catch fire. It has been thought that this style should be lost, but in the heart of Saigon, gourmets still find a dish of Bun Cha grilled in bamboo sticks in Hoa Dong restaurant to enjoy the taste of ancient Hanoi food migrated to Saigon.
The former owner of bun cha Hoa Dong is miss Chung and the first eatery was on Le Thanh Ton street’s sidewalk, near Ben Thanh market for more than half a century ago. Due to the crowd of customers, she opened a restaurant located in front of Ly Tu Trong – Thu Khoa Huan Street, near Ben Thanh Market.
Bun cha here is among the most exquisite and delicious dish in Saigon, with patty grilled on charcoals then turns yellow as honey, served with a bowl of sweet and sour sauce, mixed with pickled green papaya. If Hanoian put noodle into the cup of patty, most Saigon people take patties, noodles and other vegetables in a another bowl, drizzle with a little sauce and enjoy it.
It is unbelievable that lying on the heart of busy Saigon, there is such a skillful dish that surprise. An interesting place to find the original flavor of bun cha Hanoi.
