This is a long time cultural tradition in the mind of Vietnamese people. Mother Death Anniversary is to honor Great Mother Lieu Hanh, a presiding deity of Mother Worship and one of the four immortal saints of the Vietnamese people.

From the first to the tenth of March lunar calendar, residents in Kim Thai commune, Vu Ban district, Nam Dinh province organize Phu Day festival to express gratitude to this Mother Saint. Various cultural activities are a central part of the six-day festival. A chau van (spiritual) singing contest is the highlight of the festival, while arts performances as well as lion and dragon dancing also delight audiences.
Festival goers have a chance to participate in traditional folk games like human chess, wrestling and keo chu in which a team of 32 boys under 15 years old arrange a formation to create phrases in Han (Chinese characters) and Nom (former Vietnamese system) scripts.

4. Flock To Perfume Temple Festival
Perfume Pagoda festival is an annual celebration annually between the first and third Lunar Calendar which nearly falls February to March. Perfume Pagoda festival or Chua Huong is dubbed as the biggest Buddhist Festival in the Northern part of Vietnam. It attracts all international and local visitors due to it’s unique and spectacular natural creation- the rock hills and mountains where Thien Tru temple can be found. The amazing boat ride at the Yen Vi river is one of the highlights of the festival aside from exploring you around the beauty of the province of Huong Son at Ha Tay (Hanoi now).

Hundreds of thousands of pilgrims travel to this sacred cave to pray for happiness and prosperity in the coming year. Pilgrims board boats, usually rowed by young women, which carry them along the Yen Stream through a stunning landscape of blazing green rice paddles studded with jagged limestone mounts to the base of Huong Mountain. From the riverbank, pilgrims proceed on foot, past various ancient pagodas, monasteries and shrines, up hundreds of stone steps and a switchback trail, all worn smooth by the passage of countless feet. The Perfume Pagoda consists of a group of caves and is an impressive architectural ensemble of both human and natural endeavor.
