The temple named after a large pagoda in the North – Vinh Nghiem Pagoda in La Duc commune, Bac Giang province – once a center of spreading Buddhism of Truc Lam sect that imbued with national identity and has combined previous Zens, has organized the first church in the history of Buddhism in Vietnam and is the first model of later Church organizations. Vinh Nghiem Duc La Pagoda was founded from the reign of King Ly Thai To (1010 – 1028), a purely Asian architecture and has been restored several times.

The temple construction was started in 1964 by architect Nghuyen Ba Lang and Bui Van To engineer and operated by the Committee of Vinh Nghiem. The fund of construction was donored by monks and Buddha fellows. The construction basically completed in 1971 with the area of 7,000 square meters.

The temple is located on a spacious campus near the avenue. The overall architecture consists of three gates, the main temple, bell tower, outbuildings and 7-storey tower with 40 meters high. The main palace is stately decorated with large statues of horizontal boards; Chinese parallel sentences were beautifully engraved. Many paintings are clearly drawn and annotated on two sides of walls.

Vinh Nghiem pagoda today is not only the worship place for Buddhism fellows but also the scenic sights of tourists at home and abroad. In particular, Vinh Nghiem pagoda is a foundation of the Basic School of Buddhism, Buddhist Library in Ho Chi Minh City, staying of 20 monks, nuns studying at the Northern Vietnam School of Advanced Buddhist branch 2. Every week, here takes place sutra lectures to guide Buddhists on the meditation path. Every year, on October 8-12 Lunar Calendar, the day the Buddha attained enlightenment, Vinh Nghiem Pagoda held solemn ceremonies to honor Monk Thich Thanh Hanh (1838-1936).
